I stumbled on a friend on the premises of a bank in the Ogba area of Lagos State 23 years after we last met. It was a pleasant reunion by any indication. He was a devout Christian and generally well-behaved. After the usual exchange of pleasantries, he enquired about life generally and in the process, he said: “Abuuu in a familiar tone” You see, I worked for a company for 15 years but could not buy a bicycle; but see, pointing his finger at a Mercedes Benz Car park at about 16-meters away – I worked for God for only 4-years and I bought a car’’? We both moved towards the car, opened the door and sat inside chatting and glorifying God. Before pathing, he invited me to visit him in his residence and exchanged telephone addresses. He earlier told me he is a Pastor.
I honoured the request, and in his flat were two other gentlemen whom I guessed were members of his congregation. Over snacks, one of the men asked, “Mr. Abu, are you a Christian?” To which I said no, that I am a Muslim. He squeezed his face and added, “There is no difference between Christians and ‘Moslems’; no, Sir, it is Muslim,” I corrected him.
Such is their approach when they want to align Islam with man-made doctrine. Islam becomes Muhammedanism, Muslims become Moslems, Alhaj becomes Been To, Makkah becomes Mecca, and Hijra becomes Hejera, albeit, derogatively.
Continuing, the man said, Jesus is honoured in the Qur’an and I said in more than ten places. He went on to say that both the Qur’an and the Bible are similar. Not at all, I disagreed adding that while the Qur’an is God’s word, the Bible is a motley of the sort. Then he drew the oxymoron and said, what does the Alif, Lam, Min that begins some chapters of the Qur’an, and the WE as used in the holy book mean? I reminded him that the onus of proof lies with he who alleges; in response to which he said – Alif, Lam, and Min indicate the trinity while the WE means God and Jesus. What a sick mentality! Christian scholars are adept in trying to transmute base metals into gold and diamonds and often hang themselves with their erudition.

In response, I asked the man, if Alif Lam Min means Trinity in your understanding, what does NUN single letter mean? So also two letters such as HA MIN or do four letters mean ‘QUARDNITY’ while five letters mean “FIFTNITY?” At this stage, he went silent. These abbreviated letters are known as MYSTIC letters in the Holy Qur’an whose meaning is known ONLY to Allah (s.w.t.) Most importantly, neither Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) nor any of His Caliphats attempted a meaning for these mystic letters. Can you imagine an atheist giving meaning to them?
As for the WE as used in the Qur’an, I answered that it is used as a ‘DIGNIFIED NOUN’, and to bring it home to him, I asked where he comes from, his tribe. I am an Ijebu man, he answered. Fine, I said adding that if our respected Royal Father, Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebu Land send you to one of his chiefs, how will you deliver the message? Will you use the singular pronoun ‘I’ or WE? In the Yoruba language, you will choose and say, ‘Awon ni..’ which indicates plural instead of ‘Mo ni’ which means I. Hadhrat Jubril (Angel Gabriel) (a.s.) the bearer of messages from Allah (s.w.t.) to the Prophets, in some instances using WE which means Allah and His Angels who are under His command. In most cases, the Holy Angel uses ‘Your Lord’. Or Allah (s.w.t.) This is the context in which WE is used in the Holy Qur’an.

In response to part two of these posts, someone has already accused me of corrupting the Bible even though all inferences were drawn from the Bible. Therefore, whether they accept the truth or not, these posts serve as COMBAT KITS from which you, the Muslim can draw lethal weapons to scare them away when next they darken your door, asking you to exchange your Holy Qur’an for their Bible.
