“We, therefore, call on the Inspector General of Police to henceforth intervene by stopping this ongoing show of shame by the opposition, among whom are the following prominent trouble-makers of decades, former President Olusegun Obasanjo,…”

PEGASUS REPORTERS, LAGOS | MARCH 29, 2023
The Coalition for Better Nigeria, one of the few surviving pro-democracy groups that fought alongside the National Democratic Coalition, NADECO for the actualization of the June 12 mandate of the late MKO Abiola has again warned of surreptitious attempts by enemies of democracy to play the June 12 annulment option in the just concluded presidential elections.
The coalition in a recent press statement called on the nation’s security apparati to wake up to the reality of an organized plot to create havoc in the country by sponsoring pockets of protests around the country to discredit the mandate freely and democratically given to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 11th presidential election. In the statement titled: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: TIME FOR SILENT MAJORITY TO SPEAK OUT, PROTECT PEOPLE’S MANDATE, the coalition led by Comrade AWA Bamiji said amongst others:
“We, therefore, call on the Inspector General of Police to henceforth intervene by stopping this ongoing show of shame by the opposition, among whom are the following prominent trouble-makers of decades, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, his former Deputy and the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his Running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; Peter Obi and Datti Baba Ahmed, Labour Party Presidential Candidate and his Running Mate Chief, Chief Emmanuel Nwayanwu, Chief Bode George, Pa Ayo Adebanjo among others”
Explaining that the desire of the sponsors of the protests falls short of national interest as they are mainly members of the opposition and some disgruntled elders brimming with hatred for the president-elect, the statement continued:
“Their selfish interest, collective threat to our democracy, and continuos calling for the outright cancellation of the Presidential election to pave way for the Interim National Government, a repeat of the June 12 saga, were well understood and had since become common knowledge. (The) silence of the DG, NIA; DG, DSS; and Inspector General of Police and other security agencies means (the) cabal in Aso Rock Villa is still at work, after losing out on the epic battle of the APC Presidential Election Primary, followed by subjecting the innocent Nigerians to the suffering of cash crunch and fuel scarcity before the election and up till now.”
Warning that the coalition will not stand aside and let the enemies of growth push Nigeria into another round of crises the statement said that it will continue to pursue democratic alternation as it will not give in this time to blackmail
“It’s no retreat, no surrender” until May 29 inauguration becomes a reality. We are better experienced with the bitter experience of the June 12 election annulment, exactly 30 years ago coupled with modern technology. After going to the Tribunal, they both became nuisances and their long enduring civil disobedience has just taken another dimension with our intervention”
As a first step to the group’s determination to ensure that the democracy Nigeria embraced in 1999 is sustained, it kicked off its rounds of enlightenment and peaceful protest in Abuja at the Unity Fountain last week.
The pro-Tinubu rallies which the coalition says will continue until the president-elect is sworn in on May 29th was attended by the former 2-term Governors of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, and former Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha represented by Comrade Godwin Udhedhe Imenu and Bishop (Dr) Paul John; the most popular former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), during the June 12, 1993 election annulment.
Also in attendance were the former Spokesman of the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon (Comrade) Segun Olulade, and Hon Tosin Adeyanju among several others. Among activists who are expected to attend successive rounds of the peaceful protest include the following: the Leader of Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Front, Alhaji Asari Dokubo; President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima; Otunba Jumoke Ogunkeyede (JMK), former USA Host of NADECO meetings abroad, whose beautiful mansion was burnt down completely during the June 12 struggles by the spies of a late military dictator. Others include the Nigerians in Diaspora who have equally signified their interest to come home and join forces with us for subsequent protest to defend this fragile Democracy in Nigeria. Prominent among them is Anthony Fasayo, a. k.a (Tony Fash), former Students’ Union President, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, during the 1995 turbulent era on campus who is coming all the way from Dublin among others in the endless list of June 12 veterans.
The June 12 Big Masquerade, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, former National Secretary of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) during the June 12 era is slated for an appearance during a full-blown OCCUPY NIGERIA rally slated to round off the enlightenment before the swearing-in on May 29, 2023.
In a terse statement at the end of the Abuja rally, the group spokesman told the media that the purpose of the rallies which will take place in major cities across the nation became imperative because “Our attention was drawn to shameful and disgusting protests which their organizers, who are pure enemies of Democracy described as Anti-Tinubu Protests in Nassarawa, Abuja and few other places.
“We, therefore, say “enough is enough”. The reason why we, the foremost June 12 Activists across the globe are now calling on the general public to rise up immediately and defend their mandate freely given to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by joining our Marathon Campaign that took off with bigger crowd compared to that of Opposition amidst tight security and full press coverage at Unity Fountain, Abuja.
The coalition urged lovers of democracy to join because it’s strictly voluntary and best described as a take-off point and a prelude to a full-blown OCCUPY NIGERIA, nationwide peaceful protests to be staged simultaneously in all the 36 states’ capitals and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, which must be staged should there be a continuation of Anti-Tinubu protest anywhere in the country.
