After The Primaries: What Asiwaju Told VP Yemi Osinbajo During That Visit

ASIWAJU: No need for apologies. It is our victory. We are on this project together. You know me inside out. All that happened are now in the past. It is time for service and do not allow the past to tie you down from joining the train. It is a big family. Your space is still reserved.

The encounter between Asiwaju and the Vice President makes for interesting reading. If this encounter is true, it then shows the greater qualities of Asiwaju that are not appreciated by his haters.

He didn’t wait for Osibanjo to grieve over the defeat but goes ahead to pay him a visit in order to encourage him to forget the past and be ready to take his place in the political family. Through Osibanjo, he sent messages to his (Osibanjo’s) supporters to forget the past and come back.

This quality of inclusiveness in Asiwaju is what the northern governors saw in him as the kind of person to pilot the affairs of this country at this moment when there are a lot of divisions in the country.

What they discussed when Asiwaju visited Osinbajo in his office.

THE ENCOUNTER THEREAFTER

ASIWAJU AT THE DOOR

ASIWAJU: Yemi, emi o raaye protocol ooo. Open the door jare. (You seem to love protocol. Open the door please)

PYO: Egbonnnn….. (My Elder)

(Asiwaju entered)

ASIWAJU: Taa l’egbon? Egbon too fee yi m’ole? (Whom are you referring to as Elder? An elder you decided to run on the dust?)

PYO: Ko de ri bee oo, (It’s not so really) but you may not understand now sir. Asiko oro ko tii to (There will be time to explain)

ASIWAJU: Iwo lo mo oro too fe so, ogbeni je a gbagbe gbogbo yen and move forward. Iyawo e nko? (Well, you know what explanation you have, let’s leave those behind. How is your madam?)

PYO: O dabi pe o ti sun (I think she’s asleep)

ASIWAJU: Ma wule ji (You better don’t disturb her)

PYO: But e buru sa. Haha. Can’t one joke with you ni? (But you’re ruthless in fact)

ASIWAJU: (laugh) Ohun ti a n pe ni ajulo niyen (Hahaha, that’s the meaning of seniority)

PYO: E sa ma binu sir. (Kindly forgive Sir) As I said, you may not understand now. But all the same, I ask for your forgiveness

ASIWAJU: No need for apologies. It is our victory. We are on this project together. You know me inside out. All that happened are now in the past. It is time for service and do not allow the past to tie you down from joining the train. It is a big family. Your space is still reserved.

PYO: Haaaa…..my Asiwaju….you are a great leader. I appreciate your kind gestures, sir. I want to beg you for something sir…..I want this forgiveness extended to all that went with me on this journey

ASIWAJU: Yemi, you’ve known me for decades….and I have not changed. Everybody is welcome. Tell Ojudu to calm down. No need to run to Ekiti farm. Tell others too to join us. Ajumose gbogbo wa ni.(It’s our task to make) Rauf, tiwa lo n se. He did his best as your strategist but ko farabale ko ise tan (Rauf, -referring to Aregbesola – was working for us but was not patient enough to learn the ropes)

PYO: Asiwaju, e e nice . Se wipe e fi some of the formulas pamo fun Rauf? (That’s kind of you. However, that meant you hide some formulae from Rauf)

ASIWAJU: Mo fi ajulo pamo fun gbogbo yin ni( both laffed). E fe yi mi mole just like that? (I hide wisdom of seniority from all of you) Don’t worry, once we win the election, I will organise lectures for all of you again. There are certain modules I have taught you guys in the past that you did not grasp well. I saw these missing in all your wars against me (laugh)

PYO: I will be more than ready to enrol for the lectures….but hope you will not hide anything again ooo (laugh)

ASIWAJU: Yemi, mo kan ni ki n yoju si e ni. (Yemi, I thought I should call to seW e doing) You must give honour to whom it is due. You are still the VP and still the Oga

PYO: I am highly honoured egbon. Dolapo will be so glad to learn of this visit. We will see you, tomorrow sir

ASIWAJU: No problem. Ajumose ni oo. We need to get back to the drawing board and map out winning strategies. You are still my legal guru

PYO: Thank you, my leader.
