Detained Salihu Tanko-Yakassai Went Beyond Freedom Of Speech – SSS

 

It will be recalled that Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, had accused Tanko of failure to “differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern” as the reason for relieving him of his post.

The State Security Service (SSS) said that the arrest of Salihu Tanko-Yakassai, the sacked media aide to Gov Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, goes beyond the issue of freedom of expression in the social media.

Giving this indication for the arrest and detention of aid, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Peter Afunanya, said in Abuja thus:

“This is to confirm that Salihu Tanko-Yakasai is with the DSS and he is being investigated over issues beyond the expression of opinions in the social media as wrongly alleged by sections of the public,’’ he stated.

Tanko-Yakassai is currently a guest of the security agency.

  1. The DSS cannot in any justify the arrest and continued detention of Tanko. Their reason(s) is lame, illegal, most improper, backward, over-zealous, and the height of impunity.
    Tanko is a Citizen of Nigeria, he spoke for Nigerians!! The fear, the frustration the generic national insecurity, , the divisions, the tension, the socio-economic pressures and the conspicuous corruption have over-shadowed the few good things the FGN has done under PMB administration.
    Free Tanko now or charge him to Court.
    Issues like that of the arrest and continuous detention of Tanko, would not only further negatively impact the already bathered image and integrity of the current administration of PMB, but it would seriously amplify the loud accussation that this Administration is authocratic and condons impunity
