“It will be recalled that the Obidient Movement, a coinage from Obi, sprang from Peter Obi’s movement from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the Labour party when according to some analysts, he feared that he could not beat Atiku and other candidates to winning the primaries of the party.”

The governor of Delta state, Ifeanyi Okowa, has stated that the Obidient Movement stemmed from religious and ethnic considerations rather than the Labour Party (LP).

Okowa told reporters in Asaba on Monday that the movement came about because of many things, including the idea that the Igbos must make the next president.

“Many factors led to the emergence of the [Obidient] movement, which included religion, the argument that the Igbo must produce the next president, and the quest that the presidency should shift to the south,” he said.

It will be recalled that the Obidient Movement, a coinage from Obi, sprang from Peter Obi’s movement from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the Labour party when according to some analysts, he feared that he could not beat Atiku and other candidates to winning the primaries of the party.

Also speaking in a related issue, the governor said that he supports Sheriff Oborevwori, who is running for governor as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the state.

He said that Oborevwori won the party primaries on May 25, 2022, which means that the people chose him.

“I will continue to support the candidature of Oborevwori. There was a primary conducted in which he scored 590 votes to emerge the winner, so he is my choice.

“We are in a democracy where people make choices. Oborevwori was chosen by the people, so I will continue to support him.

“I promised to push the democratic process forward by ensuring free and fair elections in the state.”
