APC: The Last Lap, The Die Is Cast – Yusuf Shehu Usman, mni

“I can’t remember if Baba also used the legal terminal “Bellum” to qualify the type of status quo he ordered. Be that as it may, it appears the order was clearly understood and it’s implemented to the letter by those concerned”

President M. Buhari

PEGASUS REPORTERS, LAGOS | MARCH 24, 2022

The Eagle landed yesterday from the UK after a medical check-up punctuated by crucial political meetings. The meetings are expected to be continued in the coming days to find solutions to multiple challenges confronting the APC and literarily, to save the APC from APC.

While in London, he sent his words verbally and through written communication to the feuding parties in his Political family and household.

He minced no words in the clear written directives he conveyed to the head prefect. The language was clear, unambiguously and presidentially authoritative.

Before the final directives, there was serious n confusion in the APC family, especially the senior members who had direct interactions with the oga at the top.

The senior boys gave different interpretations to what they considered or understood to be his position of the two Chairmen; the Chairman of the Party’s Caretaker Committee and the incoming Chairman of the National Working Committee of the party.

While some said they relied on his body language, others said they heard his “ip sit dixit” and yet others claimed to followed his feet to read his leg language to know where the Baba stands on both issues.

To end all speculations, Baba released the atomic letter bomb. The bomb had a crushing effect on some of the speculators, while to the others it was a huge relief and contentment.

Baba borrowed a legal terminology to give a binding order of restraint and a return to the Status quo ante on all issues in controversy.

I can’t remember if Baba also used the legal terminal “Bellum” to qualify the type of status quo he ordered. Be that as it may, it appears the order was clearly understood and it’s implemented to the letter by those concerned.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman was reinstated along with the embattled National Secretary and this arm of the crisis seems to have been laid to rest by the atomic letter. However, Baba has said nothing about the Chairmanship of the party.

I believe he didn’t issue any directives on this, for strategic Political reasons and to maintain his neutrality in the face of permutations and speculations which were rife on the political landscape.

The fact that Baba carefully avoided issuing a directive on this, shows the Political sensitivity of the matter and Baba’s Political sagacity and tact in handling explosive issues in the party.

However, one thing that every member and leader seem to accept, is Baba’s earlier directive that the Chairman of the party should emerge from the North Central zone. This is sacrosanct, settled, signed, sealed and awaiting delivery.

It’s therefore not a surprise that all the front line and serious contenders for the post are from the North Central, with pockets of opportunists from off zone states.

In fact Nasarawa State in the zone that has given itself, the luxury of producing two serious aspirants standing head to head and shoulder to shoulder with each other in the contest.

The strongest man of the APC Politics is expected to wave the magic wand and reconcile all lingering conflicts to pave the way for a successful family congregation on the 26 of March.

The APC has established the tradition of electing its National Chairman through the process of consensus and not direct or Delegates Convention

It’s left to be seen whether it will stand on the existing protocol or depart from it this time around. As it’s commonly said, it’s not a decision cast on stone and there can always be a first time.

All eyes are now on the indefatigable leader of the APC, the most respected Baba Buhari to show the way and I have no doubt that all will follow.

There has never been a history of dissent nor disobedience to the stand of Baba on any issue affecting the APC and it’s expected to be so, even this time, to keep to the consistency of the party’s tradition.

There is a saying in the Hausa language ‘kallo ya koma sama” simply meaning: All eyes are looking up.

Let’s see what will drop from the top.
