Late Miss Iniubong Umoren – A Victim Of Circumstances?

“The truth is that killing innocent people is always wrong – and no argument or excuse, no matter how deeply believed, can ever make it right. Whosoever kills an innocent life, it is as if he has killed all of humanity”

By Emmanuel Almand Paragon Mbong

When she was born about twenty-six years ago in the sleepy village of Obio Ndot in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, her parents, now of blessed memory, christened her Iniubong.

Many were not aware of the fact that the beautiful damsel was a destiny child. A sober and well-deserved look at her name showed that one of the shining and leading lights, a torchbearer has landed on the horizon.

What is really in a name, one would say? The last sibling in the Umoren’s dynasty was destined to take her entire family out of the doldrums. She was named Iniubong meaning our time of glory. Her parents had enough hope and expectations from her if her name was anything to go by.

She waded through thick and thin, was level headed, took her studies very seriously, rose from grass to grace, and within record time, obtained her golden fleece from the prestigious University of Uyo. Her academic records indicated that she just missed carting home, first-class honours , by the whiskers.

As she was awaiting her call up letter from the mandatory one year NYSC scheme, she did not want to loaf around unnecessarily in town, as an idle mind is indeed the devil’s workshop. She decided to look for a way of keeping body and soul together, until such a time the clarion call for service to her fatherland materialized.

Unknown to her, she was oblivious of the fact that untimely death was lurking around the corner, looking for whom to devour, roast and waste. Behold, she innocently was lured into a death trap through a fake job syndicate.

Her dreams, vision, aspirations crashed like a pack of cards before her very eyes until she breathed her last. She couldn’t live to see her time of glory manifest on planet Earth, as envisaged by her parents when she was given the name Iniubong.

Her star has finally been eclipsed by one blood-sucking demon called Uduak Frank Akpan, who sent her unexpectedly to her early grave without allowing her to fulfil her divine destiny. She was mowed, hacked and cut down at her prime, for looking for a decent means of livelihood.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Whoever said that loss gets easier with time was a liar.

The truth is that killing innocent people is always wrong – and no argument or excuse, no matter how deeply believed, can ever make it right. Whosoever kills an innocent life, it is as if he has killed all of humanity.

Nothing is more painful in this world than losing someone we love so dearly. We are so much broken but we will pray for her departed soul in every moment of our lives.

The tragedy of her death has left a deep wound in our hearts. May her harmless soul rest in peace.

Some truth in life is hard to accept. Her memories will never be forgotten! Those will always remain with us forever. No matter what we say, we can never bring her back to life. We just want to pray to God so he keeps her in the best place in heaven

Iniubong, thy glory has departed from the household of anyone who had a hand in your gruesome murder. Never allow them to sleep again since they have murdered sleep
